Dinaw Mengestu was born in 1978 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Two years later, his family fled the country, fleeing the dictatorial regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam , and settled in suburban Chicago, USA. After studying English at Georgetown University (Washington) Dinaw Mengestu earned a degree in literature at Columbia University (New York). He then became professor of English at Georgetown, and also work as a journalist for various newspapers: Harper's, The Wall Street Journal , Rolling Stone (including a report on Darfur) ...
The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears , autobiographical book with hints and social published in 2006, is his first novel. In France, he won the prize for foreign Roman 2007.
